Due to the President’s Executive Order on Reevaluating and Realigning United States Foreign Aid, the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) directed Refugee Welcome Collective to immediately suspend work as of January 24, 2025. In compliance with this directive, all RWC offerings funded by PRM, such as Lunch and Learn webinars and Sounding Board social learning spaces, are canceled until further notice. Technical assistance booking is also unavailable at this time.

Domestic Refugee Health Screening

What is the Domestic Health Screening?

Domestic Health Screening is recommended by the Center for Disease Control for all refugees arriving through the Welcome Corps. Ideally, refugees should complete the domestic health screening within 30 days of arrival in the United States. This screening is free to refugees and other eligible newcomers. Presently, the following healthcare centers partner with the Indiana Refugee & International Health Program (IRHP) to provide the domestic health screening:

  1. Marion County Public Health Department, 3901 Meadows, Indianapolis, IN 46205; Ph: (317) 221-200
  2. Allen County Public Health Department, 4813 New Haven Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN  46803, Ph: (260) 449-8985
  3. HealthNet- Bloomington Health Center, 811 W 2nd St. Bloomington, IN 47403, Ph: (812) 333-4001
  4. Beacon E. Blair Warner Medical Group, 714 N Michigan St, South Bend, IN 46601, Ph: (574) 647-7477
  5. HealthLinc Centennial, 621 Memorial Dr. Ste. 402, South Bend, IN 46601, Ph (888) 580-1060
  6. Deaconess Hospital, 600 Mary St, Evansville, IN 47710, Ph: (812) 450-5000

How to schedule the Domestic Health Screening?

IRHP facilitates the scheduling of the domestic health screening for refugees and other eligible newcomers. For refugees participating in the Welcome Corps, the Private Sponsor Group is responsible for notifying IRHP of the refugees’ arrival.

Private Sponsor Groups are responsible for the following:

  • Notify IRHP of the refugees’ arrival to schedule the screening. The Private Sponsor Group must fill out the IRHP New Arrival Intake, available in ENGLISH and SPANISH.

Complete the form and send to RefugeeHealth@health.IN.gov

Once a refugee is assigned to a clinic, the clinic will reach out to the refugee or Private Sponsor Group to set up a visit date. If a second clinic visit date is needed, the clinic will notify the refugee during the first visit.

  • Make sure the refugee has transportation to the appointment(s) at the screening clinic.
  • Work with the screening clinic on any issues (for example, rescheduling appointments, if needed).
